One of the new features that distinguishes Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon from Sun and Moon is the Ultra Warp Ride minigame. Players gain access to this minigame pretty late in the games’ stories and it is the only way to encounter many Ultra Beasts and Legendary Pokémon. To read our full, extensive guide on the Ultra Warp Ride minigame, click here. In this article, however, we will be discussing the gyroscopic motion controls specifically and how to turn them off.

Normally, the Ultra Warp Ride minigame is played with the 3DS’s gyroscopic motion controls, which requires the player to physically tilt the 3DS in the direction they want to move. If you’re not a fan of these controls, you can change them so you can play the minigame using the circle pad instead. To do this, travel to Heahea City on Akala Island. You know Professor Burnet’s office building with the huge satellite dish out in front of it? Go into the building just to the left of that one. It looks like any other normal building, but on the second floor you’ll find the Game Freak headquarters. Here, you can interact with the people who made the game, but for the purposes of changing the Ultra Warp Ride controls, head to the front left area of the room. There, you will find an Aether Foundation employee. Talk to him and he will tell you that he has found a way to change the controls for the Ultra Warp Ride minigame. He will then ask you whether you prefer the gyroscopic controls or circle pad controls. Obviously, if you’re trying to get rid of the gyroscopic controls, you’ll want to pick the circle pad controls. After doing so, the Aether Foundation employee will say something about how playing with the circle pad is fun and then, the next time you play Ultra Warp Ride, you’ll find that the gyroscopic controls have been turned off and you can play with the circle pad. If you are so inclined, you can always change back to gyroscopic controls by talking to this Aether Foundation employee again.
