Dark Souls 3 Guide: How to Level Up your Character

Dark-Souls-3-How-to-Level-Up-your-Character

Dark Souls 3 is one of the most fine tuned RPGs in the world, but one of the things that makes it great, is also one of the more frustrating elements of the experience. Dark Souls 3 simply doesn’t take too much time or energy explaining itself to the player. This means even simple mechanics can be difficult to figure out, such as how to save and quit, another of these is how you actually level up your character and spend your Souls. So, to help out, here’s our quick guide on how to level up in Dark Souls 3.

First off, you won’t be able to level up at all until you get past the initial training area. Once you defeat Iudex Gundyr (check out our guide on how to defeat him here), and enter the castle you will unlock the ability, though you still have to be in a specific place and with a specific person.

The Fire Keeper, a mysterious woman whom you discover inside the Throne Room explains a bit of the backstory of the game, and pledges her help in your quest. One of the things she will do for you, is allow you to level up your character. To do this, simply speak to her and choose the Level Up option.

At this point, a menu will pop up showing you all of your stats, and how many Souls you have collected. You can now level up any single attribute, as long as you have the requisite Souls. Look in the top left to see how many you have, and how many you need. Choose the attribute you want to raise and do so, but keep in mind, this will make the cost of the next attribute level even higher. You want to start with attributes that are most important to you, as other ones might have to wait a while.

To decide which is best for you, just look on the right side of this menu. The highlighted items are what will be impacted by raising this attribute. If you want to do more damage with your attacks, then highlight Strength or Dexterity and you’ll see your weapons highlighted, and what the new levels will be.

Each time you improve a stat your overall level will raise as well. If you need some more help, be sure to check out out Dark Souls 3 Beginners Guide for some more tips and tricks.
